M Ramseur & Associates, PLLC is pleased to announce its Owner and Principal Architect, Mr. Mitchell Ramseur, NOMA, SAVE, AIA, NCARB,  was selected to speak at the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) national annual conference, NOMA Homecoming: Detroit 50. The conference, held October 20-23, 2021, marks the 50th anniversary of NOMA’s founding.

“NOMA has been critical in helping me overcome obstacles and allowing me to get to where I am now,” said Mr. Ramseur, founder of M Ramseur & Associates.

“Early in my career, I held leadership roles with NOMA, and I’ve long been a supporter of, and believer in, their mission. To now have the opportunity to give back and share my expertise and experience to other members of the architectural industry at an event of this caliber, during the celebration of NOMA’s 50th anniversary, is a great honor.”

The annual NOMA conference brings together architects, allied professionals, emerging professionals, and students to reflect on NOMA’s history and its impact on shaping the architectural industry. The event is also used as a springboard to plan for its next 50 years. The conference will be held virtually with in-person gala events held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

The conference will feature more than 40 educational seminars for a variety of experience levels and architectural disciplines. The six conference seminar tracks include Design, Technical, Community and Justice, Business Development, Legacy/Homecoming and Detroit Never Left. Mr. Ramseur will speak as a subject matter expert in three seminars across three tracks.

In the Technical track, Mr. Ramseur will present “Most common building code violations and their solutions.” Throughout the pandemic, there has been a stark increase in building code violations. Mr. Ramseur and co-presenter Ms. Lynnear Randolph of Lasting Solutions, LLC, will discuss how to identify and remedy code violations negatively impacting the health, safety and welfare of the general public from the pre-design through post-construction phases.

Within the Detroit Never Left track, Mr. Ramseur will lead a seminar on famous artists and architects from Detroit. The seminar will identify past and present architects from Detroit and their triumphs and contributions to the city. Additionally, Mr. Ramseur will explain what is in store for the future of Detroit from an architectural point of view and how attendees can contribute architecturally.

In the Community and Justice track, Mr. Ramseur will present “How zoning laws exclude Black families from areas of opportunity and how to remedy the inequality.” Along with co-presenter Ms. Lynnear Randolph, the seminar will identify some of the most high-poverty areas and the diversity within those areas compared to non-poverty-stricken areas. Inequalities will be discussed, and solutions to these problems will be identified. Additionally, in-place acts and laws meant to prevent these situations will be analyzed.

NOMA’s mission is to champion diversity within the design professions by promoting the excellence, community engagement, and professional development of its members. Mr. Ramseur previously held leadership roles within the organization, including serving as founding and former member of the Mississippi NOMA Chapter (Parliamentarian) and Former Executive Secretary of the Atlanta NOMA Chapter.
